Problems With Your Well? How To Tell When The Issues Are Related To The Pump

Katie Rogers

If your well isn't working the way it should right now, there's a good chance that you've got some problems with the pump. Unfortunately, when the pump doesn't want to work right, you're not going to have access to the water in your well, which is why you need to take care of repairs as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, many well owners don't know how to identify pump problems, or they think that all well pump problems require replacement. That's not always the case. Most well pump problems can be taken care of with repairs. But you do need to know how to identify those problems. Here are three sure signs that your well pump should be repaired as soon as possible.

Short-Cycling

If you've ever dealt with a heater that kept going off and off without completing a full heating cycle, you know what short-cycling is. But you might not realize that short-cycling can affect your well pump too. If your well pump is short-cycling, you should take care of repairs right away. Pumps often short-cycle when the seals or gaskets are worn out or when they're not seated in the well properly. These problems can be eliminated with proper pump repairs. To avoid irreparable damage to your well pump, call for repairs as soon as you notice a problem with short-cycling.

Decreased Well Yield

If your well is no longer producing an adequate supply of water to your home, you might think the problem is related to water levels. In fact, the reduced water yield may lead you to believe that you need to invest in a new well. Luckily, that might not be the case. In fact, the problem with water yield might not be related to water levels, at all. The problem may be directly related to your well pump. If your water yield is lower than it should be, have your well pump inspected right away. The loss of water yield could be caused by a broken drop pipe on your well pump.

Temperature Fluctuations

If you're afraid to take a shower because every flushed toilet leads to a burst of scalding water, it's time to have your well pump repaired. You might not think that water temperature would be related to your well pump, but it can be. If your well pump isn't working properly, a flushed toilet can cause water pressure to drop. When that happens, the only water you'll have flowing through the showerhead will be from the water heater. That's when you can expect to experience the burst of scalding water. You can eliminate the temperature fluctuations by having your well pump repaired as soon as possible.
